How to Measure a Box

Measuring correctly ensures you get an accurate rate. All you need is a tape measure and 2 minutes.

01

Gather Your Tools

  • A ruler for small boxes
  • A measuring tape for larger boxes
  • A pen to write down the numbers
02

Measure the Length

  • Measure the longest side of the top
  • Go from one edge to the other
  • This is the length of your box
Example: 12 inches
03

Measure the Width

  • Measure the shorter side of the top
  • Edge to edge across the top
  • This is the width of your box
Example: 8 inches
04

Measure the Height

  • Measure from bottom to top
  • Keep the box flat on a surface
  • This tells you the height of the box
Example: 6 inches
05

Write the Measurements

  • Always write in this order:
Length Γ— Width Γ— Height
Example: 12 in Γ— 8 in Γ— 6 in
06

Calculate Volume (Optional)

  • Multiply all three measurements together
  • Formula: V = L Γ— W Γ— H
  • 12 Γ— 8 Γ— 6 = 576 cubic inches
